Building Surveyor

THE ROLE
Due to an expanding pipeline of Building Surveying instructions, and to facilitate growth in the department, my client is looking for a Chartered Building Surveyor to join the team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in commercial building surveying, and will be experienced in the areas of Technical Due Diligence inspections. They will be an enthusiastic team player who is ready to contribute to a growing team.

My client’s Building Consultancy team is a multi-disciplinary department of experienced property professionals. They provide a diverse range of services to clients and colleagues, resulting in an interesting and varied workload, and the opportunity to widen knowledge base and skills.

The Building Consultancy department is a small, busy team of property professionals looking after a range of high-profile private and institutional clients across the commercial, office and industrial sectors. They act on behalf of landlords, tenants, funds, developers and private clients to provide a varied range of consultancy services, such as:

  • Technical Due Diligence inspections & surveys

  • Transaction-based surveys, such as Pre-Acquisition & Pre-Disposal surveys

  • Building Fabric Condition surveys (e.g. Defects Analysis)

  • Stock Condition surveys for estate portfolios

  • Dilapidations – acting for either landlord or tenant during the dilaps process

  • Landlord & Tenant services, such as approvals, licenses, lease advisory etc.

  • Interior Architecture & Workplace Design services, ranging from space planning, test fits and interior design, to full fit-out/refurbishment projects

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Building Surveying or related discipline (e.g. engineering or construction), and Chartered RICS/SCSI and/or Registered Building Surveyor

  • Strong technical knowledge of building construction, materials and systems, and identifying building defects and rectification

  • Knowledge of current Building Regulations, Health & Safety Regulations and general property/construction-related legislation

  • Experience in Landlord & Tenant matters, specifically dilapidations

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Willingness to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to delivering best-in-class outcomes for clients

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience in report writing and strong attention to detail

  • Access to own transport & a full driving licence

DESIRABLE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL

  • Skilled in contract administration and project management, with hands-on experience overseeing contractors across commercial fit-outs, refurbishments, and building energy upgrade projects

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in consultancy settings, fostering strong client relationships and contributing to team-driven project success

  • Experience in energy upgrading of buildings, energy retrofitting, low-carbon design and ESG principles
